ECHOES
For this project, I chose the BFI film Little Joe and designed an editorial article spread across two double-page layouts, centring on the change theme. My design choices aimed to reflect the film’s exploration of nature, relationships, and psychological transformations. To visually represent this theme, I utilized analogue typography inspired by how water creates reflections, symbolizing how water alters the shapes of objects—similar to the subtle changes depicted in *Little Joe*. I also experimented with paper typography and plastic cups to create distorted letterforms, mirroring the film’s themes of transformation.
The black, white, and grey palette was selected to align with the horror genre while challenging typical dark tones, contrasting the film’s vibrant visual style. The bold, abstract typography is complemented by ample negative space, resulting in a clean and easy-to-read layout. This project provided a valuable learning experience, helping me enhance my analogue typography and Photoshop skills while creatively exploring themes of change and transformation.
